Dear Certified Addiction Professional:
This is a reminder that your IAAP Certification expires April 1, 2013, or May 13, 2013. In order to keep your certification current, you must submit your application by June 30, 2013. The Certification Committee will meet on April 6th to review new certification applications. IAAP offers the following options for Certification renewal:

As you know, IAAP worked hard to get Addictions Counseling licensure passed in the State of Indiana. Because of these efforts, many of you are already licensed as a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) or a Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor (LCAC) through the IN Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA). Grandfathering into licensure, which closed in 2012, required a current and active addictions certification to apply for licensure. This included not only those coming up through the ranks, so to speak, but all out-of-state applicants moving to IN and hoping to practice in our field. Currently those seeking licensure are asked to list states in which they hold/held a type of License/Certification/Registration or Permit to Practice in any regulated Health Profession by a state licensing board. This is one of the check points for verifying academic achievement. Our profession is emergent, just coming into prominence, and is being defined and authenticated as states across our nation bring licensure to addiction professionals.
Once licensed, one may choose whether to keep their state certification up to date or allow it to lapse. I personally think I’ll keep mine active for now, to carry a credential that is recognized nationally for its educational achievements. It also helps IAAP promote professional growth and development, which I have a passion for. I believe learning is life-long and keeps us professionally competent.
